A Certificate IV in Health Science Foundations at TAFE or Marr Mooditj will provide you with the academic knowledge you require for entry into a Bachelor Degree in registered nursing, midwifery at university or a Diploma of Enrolled Nursing. TAFE also offer a Certificate IV in Preparation for Entry into Enrolled Nursing

I’m already an enrolled nurse

If you are already an enrolled nurse you can complete the conversion to registered nursing course at Curtin or Edith Cowan University. The mode of study is varied and it is recommended you contact the universities directly. If you have a Diploma of Enrolled Nursing the course takes approximately two years to complete full time.

Recognition of prior learning

You should contact the individual university or TAFE campuses to find out if you are eligible for any credits towards course entrance based on previous qualifications you have obtained or partially completed, or any work experience you have.

I already have a tertiary qualification

If you want to study registered nursing and have already completed another tertiary qualification, you may be eligible to complete a Graduate Pathway or Entry-to-Practice course.

On completion of the Curtin University’s. Master of Science (Nursing) Graduate Pathway or the University of Western Australia’s. Master of Nursing Science (Entry-to-Practice) graduates are able to register with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia as a Registered Nurse. Both courses are two years in duration when completed full-time.

Mature age students

Educational pathways are also available for mature age students – people over the age of 20. Entry into nursing and midwifery varies depending upon your work experience and education. There are several ways mature age students can enter nursing and/or midwifery and this will vary for each individual.

You will need to complete a Tertiary Entrance Ranks (TER) Preparation Course, a Bridging Course (available through the universities and TAFES offering the course you want to complete) or a Special Tertiary Admissions Test before embarking on any nursing or midwifery courses within Western Australia.

We recommend you contact the TER Preparation Course Colleges, Canning College and Tuart College, for further information and explanations.
