The Educational Pathway to Enrolled Nurse registration
The Educational Pathway to Enrolled Nurse registration is for undergraduate registered nursing students who want to gain registration as an enrolled nurse while continuing their undergraduate education.
This pathway has been developed using material from the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) and the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia’s (NMBWA) competency standards for registration.
The pathway is a result of collaboration between the relevant universities offering undergraduate nursing courses in Western Australia and the Department of Health’s Nursing and Midwifery Office. Each university has a pre-determined level at which students may seek registration as an enrolled nurse and you should contact your university to find out more.
Students must successfully complete:
- Module 1 – The role of the enrolled nurse in Western Australia – online theory assessment specifically developed to assist students in gaining the background knowledge for enrolled nurse practice in Western Australia, and
- Module 2 – is offered by each university and incorporates the necessary knowledge and clinical practice required for the undergraduate nursing student to meet the ANMC National Competency Standards for an enrolled nurse.
Becoming registered as an enrolled nurse
Once you have completed Modules 1 and 2 you can register as an enrolled nurse by submitting an educational transcript and a Statement of Eligibility (available from your university) to the NMBWA.
Once you are registered as an enrolled nurse you can seek employment in the healthcare industry in a wide range of clinical settings. If you choose this employment path, you will be paid to gain clinical experience while continuing your undergraduate studies.
Please note: Should you cease your undergraduate course studies and wish to register as an enrolled nurse, you should enrol in the 7106 Diploma of Enrolled Nursing program at TAFE and complete the necessary requirements of the College of TAFE for registration as an enrolled nurse.
