Graduate Nurse Program Eligibility
Applicants must be:
An Australian citizen or have permanent residency status at the time of application.
As a sponsor of temporary skilled visas, the Department of Health is obliged to ensure that it does not disadvantage Australian citizens and permanent residents from accessing employment. The Department of Health can only recruit visa holders where there is a declared area of skill shortage that cannot be filled from the local market.
The current employment market has reduced the numbers of graduate vacancies being offered in the last few years. This in turn means we must give greater priority to nursing graduates who are Australian citizens or have Australian permanent residency status.
We are constantly reviewing the employment opportunities for graduates. Therefore if vacancies exist at the conclusion of the Graduate Nurse Connect process in November 2010 we will we be able to accept applications from international students.
Please keep an eye on www.gnc.health.wa.gov.au for updates.
