The Nursing and Midwifery Office leads innovation in nursing and midwifery policy and practice with the aim of improving service delivery throughout metropolitan and rural areas.

The purpose and objectives of the Nursing and Midwifery Office, include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership, advice, information and guidance on all issues relating to the nursing and midwifery professions in WA
  • Promotion and development of the current WA nursing and midwifery professions
  • Leading innovation in nursing and midwifery policy and practice to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for the WA community
  • Initiating, developing and monitoring workforce policy and strategic plans in order to build sustainable nursing and midwifery workforces
  • Promoting the nursing and midwifery professions as careers of choice to the WA community, engaging those planning a career and those wishing to change careers

Achieving our objectives involves working in partnership and collaboration with nurses and midwives, consumers, healthcare-related industries, education providers, and other key stakeholders.

The Nursing and Midwifery Office is an integral part of the Innovation and Health System Reform Division of the Department of Health and the Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer is Catherine Stoddart.
