Shared Health Interactive Practice (SHIP) Group
Purpose
The purpose of the SHIP group is to support and promote the education of health professionals in Western Australia through simulation and shared learning.
Individuals can apply for membership once they have completed the introductory learning object development workshop, or equivalent, and demonstrated a commitment to contributing to the development of one learning object (defined as an interactive multimedia educational tool) per year.
The SHIP group is sponsored by the Department of Health Western Australia and the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia.
Background
The SHIP group was formed on 24 July 2006 following a four week workshop on the development of new learning technologies to support nursing and midwifery education, an initiative that was jointly sponsored by the Department of Health for Western Australia and the Nurses Board of Western Australia.
The workshop was a facilitated by Anne Spencer (Dublin City University, University of Southampton, University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust) and Pamela Henry (Dublin City University) and followed on from a keynote presentation at the Nursing Education Today Conference in Durham University (UK) in September 2005 attended by Professor Robin Watts.
Management committee
The management committee consists of eight health care professionals drawn from both clinical settings and local universities. The committee is responsible for overseeing all developments within the SHIP program, communicating those developments to health services and education institutions, and ensuring the program is administered effectively and efficiently. The group is accountable to the WA Health Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer.
