Anna talks about her day at work.

I had a really good shift today, all the girls, all the staff I was working with they really give you lots of support and help. Nothing is too much of a problem to help you.

There was a patient that was discharged today that I had been looking after and she left the ward thanking all the staff that had helped her so it just makes you – when people thank you for all your help it just makes you feel that you are doing your job right. You are really doing a good job.

And there was another patient as well, she gave praise to the staff for doing all their work, so two praises in one day. What could be better than that? The patient who I was nursing had had pneumonia, she was quite an interesting case, she is having intravenous antibiotics, and as well as intravenous antibiotics you have to keep a close eye on her blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturations and her temperature. More the temperature, you have got to keep your eye on her temperature.

You are continually communicating with the doctor all the time about the patient care, or about the patient’s medications, but while I would do the medications the enrolled nurse she was doing some of the showering which – it’s great teamwork, it was fantastic teamwork today.

Graduate nurses that are on the same ward as me we stuck together and we supported each other from day one. From that you make some really good friends.

You know that they are really good friends because they have had to support you through hard times.
