Community health
Community health nurses are primary health care providers who offer high quality preventive and community based intervention services to the population of Western Australia.
Community health nurses are based in a range of community locations and provide services to individuals and groups in key areas.
Child health / early years program
Screening and surveillance of children aged 0–4 years and their families. Health promotion and prevention on topics including parenting, immunisation, nutrition, safety, normal development and sleep. This specialty area requires appropriate postgraduate qualifications.
Youth and schools
Health promotion, prevention, health assessments, immunisation program and surveillance, sexual health programs and a variety of mental health / resiliency programs targeted at children aged 5–18 years.
Adults and minority groups
Prevention-based education programs including diabetes and lifestyle issues. The focus is on Indigenous health and refugee health in most cases.
Communicable diseases and public health nursing
Contact tracing for infectious and sexually transmissible infections, immunisation programs, women’s health and health education for targeted communities.
